Oil refining · Republic of Kazakhstan
Karabau Petroleum LLP is a Kazakhstan oil refining and production of oil products company and one of the top oil refineries of the Republic. Commissioned in 2020, the refinery processes oil raw materials fields.
Who we are
Karabau Petroleum LLP is a Kazakhstan oil refining and production of oil products company and one of the top oil refineries of the Republic. The refinery was put into operation in 2020 and is focused on processing of oil raw materials of West Siberian oil fields.
Karabau Petroleum produces a wide range of oil products — among them motor petrol of various brands, diesel fuel, oil fuel (mazout), hydrocarbon liquefied gases, vacuum gas oil, technical sulfur, bitumen of several grades and petroleum coke. The enterprise operates a full conversion chain: from primary crude oil distillation through advanced processing and heavy residue conversion, supported by its own hydrogen production, water supply and central refinery laboratory.

Product range
Karabau Petroleum produces a wide range of oil products — from high-octane motor gasoline for the domestic market to bitumen grades, technical sulfur and petroleum coke for construction and industry.
High-octane unleaded gasoline with improved ecological properties, delivered across many regions of Kazakhstan. Grades AI-80N, AI-92N, AI-95N and AI-98N.
Summer and winter grades with a low pour point for severe winter operation, produced with hydrotreating for low sulphur content.
Residual fuel oil produced from crude oil advanced processing, used for heat and power generation in industrial installations.
LPG produced and stored in a dedicated liquefied gases tank farm, dispatched by rail and road for domestic and industrial consumers.
Heavy distillate feedstock from vacuum distillation, used as feed for catalytic cracking and as a blending component.
By-product sulfur recovered from process gas streams in the sulfur recovery units, granulated for safe handling and transport.
Construction, road and roofing bitumen grades produced in the Bitumen Production Unit for road building and industrial application.
Produced in the Delayed Coking Unit and the Coke Calcination Unit, supplying carbon feedstock to metallurgy and industry.
Natural gas, primarily methane, cooled to approximately −162°C to become a liquid It is stored and transported in specialized cryogenic tanks and used for industrial energy .
Upgrading project
As a result of the upgrading project implementation, two new complexes of process units were built and commissioned at the refinery in December 2020. Twelve new utilities & offsite facilities were built for the normal operation of the constructed and brought-into-service units, and existing production capacities were revamped.
A new process complex that raises the octane quality of the gasoline pool, supporting production of modern high-octane grades from the refinery's own streams.
A new complex that captures sulfur compounds from process streams, cutting emissions and producing technical sulfur as a marketable, granulated by-product.
Twelve new utilities and offsite facilities were constructed to guarantee stable operation of the newly built and brought-into-service process units.
Revamped during the upgrading project to raise throughput and improve fractionation quality at the head of the refinery process chain.
The fuel complex KT-1 for deep processing of fuel oil was revamped, increasing conversion depth and the yield of light products.
The delayed coking unit was modernised as part of the upgrading project, strengthening heavy residue conversion and petroleum coke output.
Today's priorities
The priority for Karabau Petroleum today is to ensure the production of motor fuels corresponding to the ecological classes K4 and K5, in the amount necessary for the country's needs, and to raise the technical resource of the refinery.
Technical resource
Increasing the technical resource of the refinery and its output for a three-year inter-repair cycle is a central objective. The programme combines unit revamps, new utilities & offsite capacity and rigorous inspection of critical equipment across the process chain.
